Tension was high at Naivasha Town after a matatu Sacco was denied operations by a rival.
Maruti Matatu Sacco had its operations halted after it was accused of flouting the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) regulations and traffic rules.
The tension paralysed transport and brought businesses to a standstill for the most part of the day.
A Maruti stage manager Nelson Kamau at Karagita stage said the rival Sacco’s intention was to cripple the operations of his Sacco.
“Maruti Sacco has complied with all NTSA regulations. The allegations by our rival are unfounded,” said Kamau.
Addressing the rival members of the Sacco on Monday at Karagita Stage, the Chairman of Naivasha Matatu Welfare, Stephen Mungai said that he would look into the allegations and promised to cool down the rising temperature among the Saccos.
“I will look into the allegations to confirm if Maruti Sacco has complied with NTSA regulations,” said Mungai.
He urged Sacco members of not to take matatu by-laws in their hand as they have a body that regulates their operations.
“If one is aggrieved by a certain issue, they should consult our Sacco’s body to solve the issue,” said Mungai.
He however urged all saccos to comply with all NTSA rules to avoid confrontation with the traffic department.
