Wamasaa Travelers Sacco has sacked four drivers and suspended two others for three months, says Stephen Mbolonzi.
The Sacco’s Lower Eastern Region chairman said the interdicted PSV drivers are unruly and cannot be tolerated by the company’s management.
Mbolonzi spoke at a meeting with drivers, conductors and matatu owners in Athi River town on Thursday.
He condemned drivers and their conductors who flout traffic rules and mishandle their passengers while on the road.
Mbolonzi said all those operating vehicles belonging to Wamasaa Travelers Sacco must be decent, disciplined and law compliant while on duty to prevent unnecessary road accidents and complaints from the public.
He said the Sacco’s management will stop vehicles whose drivers over speed from operating in designated routes for one year.
“If a driver speeds more than 80 Km/h, we will stop the vehicle from operation for one year,” said Mbolonzi.
Mbolonzi said drivers and conductors must wear uniforms at all time.
He said they will hand over to National Transport Safety Authority names of drivers and conductors who operate without valid documents as required by the law for disciplinary action.
Mbolonzi said there are increased accidents on roads in lower eastern region due to indisciplined drivers and their conductors.
He cautioned the drivers from risky overlapping and overtaking claiming they put their passengers’ lives on the line for no reasons due to unnecessary competitions.
Mbolonzi said the Sacco had hired stage managers in routes where their vehicles ply on to monitor the operators who do not comply with traffic rules and regulations including mistreating their clients.
He cautioned the operators from drinking alcohol and smoking while at work asserting they should respect their jobs and passengers.
“All operating our vehicles must abide by the law to reduce road carnage, accidents are too many on roads in Lower Eastern,” said Mbolonzi.
Mbolonzi said they were keen on replacing unruly operators to save the entire Sacco from being victimized because of few in disciplined individuals who expose their vehicles to unnecessary road accidents.
