Matatu Welfare Association has launched a campaign aimed at promoting peace in the country ahead of August 8 general election.
The association chairman Dickson Mbugua has said the initiative is aimed at promoting peace, before, during and after the elections.
Speaking on Saturday, he noted that the matatu sector will suffer greatly in case of violence.
He pointed out that 70 per cent of PSVs were acquired using loans and putting them out of business through destruction would be a big loss.
“Those who will be injured will have nobody to transport them to hospitals and so there is need to prevent violence since we don’t want loss of lives or property.
"We don’t want a repeat of 2007/2008 post election violence since we underwent heavy losses,” Mbugua said.
The association called on politicians to be in the forefront in preaching peace.
