[Photo| Busia County Government]Matayos Member of Parliament Geoffrey Odanga has called on the Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to lift the ban on registration and construction of new secondary schools across the country.Odanga said the mismatch between funding and enrolment growth will mean overcrowding, overburdened infrastructure and facility shortages.Speaking at Bugeng'i on Saturday during the burial of Busia County employee Florence Mubweka, the legislator noted that the 2018 KCPE candidates will have a smooth transition should the ban be lifted as soon as possible.  "We want situations where all primary schools have secondary schools. This will enable the National Government meet the target of transiting all pupils who sit for KCPE exams," Odanga said. "The ban should be lifted now to allow the construction and registration of new secondary schools. KCPE candidates in 2018 will have a smooth transition if the ban is lifted now," he added.The lawmaker also urged the National Government to intervene and stop stalemate at the public universities. "The Government should come clear on Sh5.2b so that it can be remitted to relevant universities to enable our children proceed with their learning," Odanga noted.
