Mathare MP Stephen Kariuki has welcomed former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth’s bid for Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the coming 2017 polls.
Speaking in an interview on Radio Maisha on Thursday, the ODM lawmaker who recently decamped to Jubilee said that Kenneth stands a higher chance of being elected compared to other aspirants who have declared interest in the same seat.
“I welcome Kenneth’s bid for the Nairobi seat and I am confident that Nairobians will support him in 2017,” he said during the interview.
The Mathare legislator however refuted claims that Kenneth is being prepared for 2022 elections.
“People should stop talking about 2022 now and focus on the 2017 elections,” he added.
Kariuki also said that the Mt Kenya region will back Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 poll as planned.
This was a refutation of speculations doing rounds that Central Kenya was grooming Kenneth for 2022, something the Jubilee circles have greatly rejected as propaganda.
