Mathare United Coach Francis Kimanzi beat a host of other coaches including Gor Mahia tactician Dylan Kerr to be named the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for February.
Kimanzi led his team to three wins and a draw in February and has generally started the season in fine form.
The slum-boys won the first match in February, beating Nzoia Sugar before poor officiating denied them maximum points in the following match, where they were forced to settle for a draw with Ulinzi Stars.
After the blip, Mathare picked them up again and recorded a 3-1 convincing win against Sofapaka, which perched them at the top of the KPL standings without a loss in February.
“We added a bit of experience in the squad but most importantly the young players learned from last year’s games. A lot of them had little or no experience but now they look quite at home,” said Kimanzi during the presentation at the Mathare grounds on Tuesday morning.
“They play fearlessly and implement our strategies better hence the results. The league is very competitive and long so we are just taking one game as it comes and play to win every match. It is the points gathered here and there that culminate in a season’s performance,” he added.
