Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has barred Kenyan universities from opening more satellite campuses saying that those already operating must be audited afresh.
Matiang'i also closed a satellite campus in Rwanda and said it was opened and operated illegally.
Although the CS did not name the institution whose campus was closed, sources reveal that the affected university could be either JKUAT or Kenyatta University which are the only Kenyan universities operating in the country.
Matiang'i said the recent move to restrict opening of satellite campuses was aimed at securing the education standards.
"Opening the satellite campuses waters down standards," he said Monday while addressing varsity chiefs in Naivasha.
"The varsities audit revealed ineligible students were admitted to pursue degrees and that honorary degrees were given to undeserving cases," he added.
