Firebrand Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i now wants The Standard Group to retract an article that indirectly links him to an illicit love affair with a daughter to Nairobi Church elder.
Although the local daily did not explicitly mention his name, he argues, specific descriptions highlighted in the article at the grapevine column has been used before by the same company to refer to him.
"In articles previously published by your paper, you have used adjectives such as 'no-nonsense, outspoken and strong Christian' to refer to Matiang'i," read a statement from Mwenda Njoka, the Director of Communications in the ministry.
Further, he says, the article has been erroneously picked by bloggers to 'assassinate' his character.
And the Standard Group now has seven days to issue a public apology to the minister but he has not however consequences that they may suffer should they fail to retract.
"The purpose of this letter is to demand, without prejudice, retraction of the defamatory within seven days," reads the letter.
According to the paper, the unnamed minister, has reduced his frequency to Church following summons by Church elders over the illicit affair.
