Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has warned school heads against mismanaging government funds disbursed to institutions.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, Matiang'i noted that there was a lot of wastage of education funds in schools, vowing to crack the whip on principals who do not manage resources prudently.
“A lot of money is put into this sector but there is high misuse of the resources. For example, 57 per cent of money allocated for purchasing books and other materials is misappropriated. There is also no transparency on how funds are used and this will no longer be allowed to go on,” he said.
He further cautioned schools against initiating projects including purchase of school buses without notifying the County Education Board for approval.
“This school buses business has become an avenue to fleece parents. This shall not be allowed to go on,” he warned.
