The Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has declared war on the cattle rustlers by changing the tactic of tracing the rustlers’ networks, whose action has become a menace to some parts of the country.
While addressing members of the National Assembly, National Security and Administration in Shanzu, Mombasa, Matiang’i said that there is a group of people who have ganged up with a well calculated move of cattle rustling.
They hide their evil doings behind the ‘culture’.Matiang’i said that the previous attempts to wind up the menace failed but now they are set to track their (cattle rustlers) networks and end the menace.
He also said that the act has derailed the economy of the country causing stalled development projects.
“We have set up a new tactic of targeting the cattle rustlers’ networks. Let people appreciate and celebrate their cultures well without indulging themselves with cattle rustling. We will go hard on this because it is an industry and therefore we must ensure the situation is sort out,” Matiang’i said.
"We are so determined this time because it is for the good of the country. We cannot sit down and watch a bandwagon derailing the country’s development,” he added.
Matiang’i also pointed out that, among the regions affected more across the country is Rift valley. He said that in the past few years a lot of cattle had been stolen from one clan to another.
He also said if the criminals are still going to hide behind the ‘culture’ then that kind of culture will have to be stopped if it is about stealing cattle from one another.
“Eve if they are going to hide behind the culture, they will not be safe. The best cultures are known. Those that champion the stealing of cattle from one another will not be tolerated.”
