Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has denied claims that he caused the sacking of a Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) employee.
The KAA employee, Daisy Cherogony, has sued the company for firing her for purportedly ‘mistreating’ the Matiang’i in April.
Reports indicate Cherogony refused to allow the cabinet secretary alongside his security team to enter the airport before going through the screening process.
The former KAA employer now wants KAA to pay her Sh2.4 million as compensation following the dismissal.
Matiang’i however dismissed the claims shortly after the matter spark mixed reactions from the public. He said he has never entered any airport before gone through the security procedures.
“How could she be disciplined because of me in April while the documents show a process began in February,” Matiang’i asked in a tweet, Friday.
“I am simply a victim of my office and public profile on this KAA matter. I am shocked about the callous fabrications around it,” he said.
“I have just seen the papers now. As always, I will place in the public domain the truth about this in a communication later,” he added.
However, according to Cherogony’s dismissal letter dated April 7, the former KAA worker is said to have embarrassed the CS who was to catch a 6am flight to Kisumu.
“During the suspension, you will not be paid salary but will be entitled to house allowance and medical cover as stipulated in the Human Resource manual,” part of the letter reads.
“Further, you will be required to report to the airport manager every Monday and Friday at 8 am…you are not allowed to leave the your station of duty without the permission of JKIA manager,” added the letter as quoted by the Star.
