A week after accusing opposition leader Raila Odinga of allegedly misusing police officers to intimidate state officers, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has blamed Odinga of ‘thriving of propaganda.

In what he termed as a routine security reshuffle, Matiang’i withdrew a number of security officers attached to Odinga without notice.

And at an interview with KTN, Matiang’i dismissed opposition’s claims that over 24 people died following spontaneous protests after IEBC declared Uhuru Kenyatta winner of presidential elections.

“He thrives in propaganda and I can tell you that only eight people we can account for, out of August protests,” he said, without making direct reference to Odinga.

He added:”A number of these had threatened to shoot the police and the officers had to respond. Five of them were gangsters.”

At his public rallies, Odinga accused the police of using excessive force to quell protests adding that police had killed several people and dumped them in Lake Victoria.

The interior chief said police are strictly acting within the parameters of law and asked the country to wait for in depth report by IPOA to know what transpired.
