Residents of Chepilat in Nyamira County have accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i of doing 'too little' to contain crime in the region.
This comes after thugs on Tuesday night broke into three houses in the area and stole household items worth Sh100,000.
"There is nothing we can be proud about Matiang’i. Since he was appointed the Interior Cs, insecurity in the area has been on the rise.
"We don’t recognize him as of now until he intervenes to boost the security in the area,” said Joseph Manoti, a local.
The residents regretted that despite that there are police officers in the area, crime is on the rise.
“We don’t see the importance of having police officers in the area because criminals have been terrorizing us especially at night.
"The security officers are lazy and should be transferred since some of them are colluding with criminals to steal from traders and other poor residents,” noted Jeremiah Nyakeya.
Nyakeya said they are living in fear at their homes because police officers are not patrolling in the area as required at night to keep off criminals from the area.
