The debate on who should deputise William Ruto in 2022 elections has been reignited following endorsement of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
Already, politicians from Central and Western Kenya have positioned themselves for the lucrative seat on Jubilee ticket.
Notable among them is Ababu Namwamba, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Gideo Mung'aro, Mwangi Kiunjuri among others.
At an event in Mwongori Secondary on Saturday, Nyamira MCAs backed Matiang'i for the seat, saying that his track record is commendable.
"We are asking Ruto o consider Matiang'i as his deputy. He has worked diligently and I am certainly sure that he will deliver," said Majority Leader Duke Masaira.
Speaker Moffat Teya, although he was not categorically clear, said the Gusii community should now go for deputy president position.
"We have numbers and able leaders who can contest. Let us plan in advance so that nobody will outsmart us."
The minister has been making inroads within Gusii region with pundits saying he could be positioning himself for a big political seat.
