[Photo|Moi University]Moi University Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Laban Ayiro's term has been extended once again, after it was extended for six months, early this year.Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i extended Ayiro's contract for another six months in a letter dated September 12, 2017 to Prof Ayiro. The letter seen by the University's communication department, noted that the Acting VC serves until a substantive Vice Chancellor is appointed within the six months. This is the third time Matiang'i extends the contract, a move that will give room to the the newly appointed council to start a process to recruit a substantive VC, to the Eldoret based learning institution.Matiang'i appointed Ayiro to the position in September 2016, following the expiry of serving term of retired VC, Prof Richard Mibey. He was given three months in office, a term that was reviewed in December and extended for three more months.Ayiro's appointment caused an uproar, prompting a section of leaders from Uasin Gishu County to storm the institution in protest over appointment of 'an outsider' VC, led by Governor Jackson Mandago.
