Fred Matiang’i on Sunday suspended a trip to Nyasumi Catholic reportedly after youths allied to opposition ODM threatened to ‘make’ it difficult for him.
The Education Cabinet Secretary had confirmed attendance before late cancellation on Saturday evening.
And a source close to the Church management claimed that his decision to cancel the trip was informed following intelligence briefs.
“He was coming but decided to cancel following briefs that some youths allied to ODM were planning to boo him,” said the source who spoke on anonymity due to sensitivity of the matter.
“He was not happy with the political intolerance and had to cancel. He however promised to come back,” added the source.
In his recent tour to the Gusii region, Matiangi dismissed claims that he is involved in Jubilee Party campaigns.
“I am not a politician and I have no intention to be one. I am doing my job and if that what people call politics, so be it,” he said.
Recently, KUPPET-Kisii branch officers slammed the minister for allegedly campaigning for Jubilee Party in Gusii region when touring schools.
