In a meeting with county commissioners and other security officials in Nairobi, Matiang’i said that chiefs need to step up to ensure that they weed out illegal brewing of alcohol and gambling machines in their areas or they will be held accountable.
“We cannot keep on talking about one thing, we need to get chiefs, their assistants and commissioners who will work to ensure that we don’t allow this illegal brewing to continue,” he said as quoted on Citizen FM.
He further said that the increase of gambling machines is illegal and negatively affecting the youth and the elderly alike and therefore it should be gotten rid of as soon as possible.
“This resurgence of illegal gambling machines in rural and urban areas is illegal and therefore we expect government agents; commissioners and the chiefs to work together to deal with the people operating these illegal gambling machines,” Matiang’i said.
In the recent past people have been complaining of the increase in the number of gambling machines in their neighbourhoods attributing them to the increased crimes among the youth.
