Education CS Fred Matiang'i may have been in office for few months now but his relationship with Nyamira school heads is of high repute and adorable.
Matiang'i has been on headlines for his impromptu visits in a number of institutions to assess their performance in recent weeks.
His mode of management has been welcomed by a number of Nyamira school heads led by Sironga High principal Helen Mabese, terming him ‘typical manager’ the education ministry has lacked since independence.
“I wasn’t aware that he would be here though it’s not a shock because he has been doing that in many schools. He is a typical manager that the ministry of education has lacked since independence. I bet his performance in a few months he’s been in office has been exemplary and as Nyamira school heads, we back him fully as he seeks to reform education sector,” Mabese said on Friday when the CS visited her school.
Her Kenyoro counterpart Bruce Kerage who accompanied the CS said his impromptu visits would enhance delivery of quality education since it will enable him to assess the conditions where most teachers work from.
“When he visits, many people think that he is after teachers to see whether of not they are working. But for me, I think this is a blessing because he will be able to see some of deplorable conditions where teachers work from and improve them. His performance is above average,” he said.
Mr Ombori Masara of Riakworo sec on his part lauded the CS for his commitment to uplift education standards by working closely with teachers and expressed his optimism that the historical standoff between teachers and their employer TSC will come to an end.
“He is very reasonable and the relationship with teachers is cordial perhaps because he was once a teacher. I am hopeful that he will be able to help the teachers of this nation by negotiating salary increment," he said.
