Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has hailed the reemergence of national schools in last year’s KCPE exams.
Speaking on Tuesday during the release of the KCPE results, Matiang’I said the pupils did well compared to last year, recording minimal malpractice cases.
“Performance in the exam this year has shown remarkable improvement in last year’s performance. We are very grateful that we have improved in many subjects. We are going to pay attention to Science, Social Studies and Religious Education where we have noticed a drop this year,” he said.
He further said that the government is committed to ensuring the students get the best education, adding that they will spare no effort to address their needs.
The top candidate in this year’s results scored 455 marks compared to last year’s 437 marks.
The number of candidates who scored above 400 marks improved from 5,000 to 9,000, while the number of pupils who scored less than 100 marks has dropped from 6,000 to 2,000.
This is the earliest ever the results have been released iin the history of the country, which has over the year been done after Christmas.
This year’s results were released 19 days after the candidates finished their exams.
