Dr Matiang’i was speaking to the students, teachers and the members of the Board of Management after touring the school’s projects on Friday.

“I thank Moi Girls High School, Nairobi for keeping a strong tradition of supporting students, particularly Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) while at this school,” he noted.

SDA students in some schools have found it difficult to attend weekend tuition, which stands banned by the Basic Education Act, 2012, and which schools violate with impunity, saying Saturday is a Sabbath Day in their church and therefore cannot attend classes.

Some of the school’s administrations have scoffed at their requests, saying they cannot compromise the academic traditions of their schools at the expense of the faiths of some students.

Dr Matiang’i urged students to listen to the entreaties of their parents, saying parents always meant well in the instructions they give their children.

He also urged them to equally listen to the injunctions of their teachers, saying they had the knowledge and expertise to guide them in their education more than anybody else other than their parents.

He underscored the need for Boards of School Managements which were focused so they can provide the leadership schools require to ensure effective delivery of education to learners.

He stressed the need for parents of class eight and form four candidates not to pay examinations fees saying the Government had already paid the fee for them.

The school’s Principal, Mrs Jael Muriithi, thanked the CS for the visit, saying it had provided morale to the students and teachers.
