Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has questioned the credibility of academic giants in Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) following dismal performances in 2016 exams.
Only 141 students managed to score straight As in the exams across the country, a significant downfall from previous years where a single school could manage more than the number.
Speaking at Shimo La Tewa High School on Thursday, Matiang’i questioned the consistency of a number of institutions.
“It is quite absurd that some private schools which had 212 As in 2015 papers could only manage 2 As this year. That kind of variance is questionable and further adds gaps to the credibility of our exams,” he said.
“Only Alliance Girls High School and Kenya High School maintained their consistency. The rest could not withstand tough examination regulations we had put this year,” added Matiang’i.
Among the institutions which recorded significant drop include Alliance High School, Maseno School, Kabarak High, and Chavakali among others.
