Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i says members of the public have been condemning him unfairly without listening to his part of the story.
For the last one month, Matiang’i has attracted condemnation from social media users over alleged extrajudicial killings by the police under his instructions.
Terming it as the most ‘difficult’ job, Matiang’i says most good things by the police officers go unreported by the media.
“I am being tortured without being given fair hearing. For instance, those who were killed at the eve of elections were rapists whom the public want to believe were peaceful protestors.
“I cannot rush to conclusions by just listening to one fashion of the story. That is why it’s important for the public to sometime wait for independent investigations before crucifying us,” he said in an interview with KTN on Monday.
On demonstrations, he said members of the public were free to picket during the specified hours of the day adding that anything past the stipulated time would be treated as a violation of the law.
He also dismissed a clip in which police allegedly descended on the students of University of Nairobi by terming it ‘grossly exaggerated’.
