The government through the Ministry of Education has introduced new changes in the school calendar. According to Education CS Fred Matiang’i,  the changes are meant to curb cases of exam cheating.

Among the changes are extending the second term by one more week. Matiang’i said this will help teachers to cover the syllabus on time.

Also, he said that there will be no visiting days as well as prayer days claiming these are key days where candidates are given leaked exam materials.

Other changes made by the CS are schools not allowing for mid- term breaks and shortening the period of candidates sitting for national exams.

"we have conducted a research and also talked to principals of various schools. We have found out that many of the candidates are lured to exam cheating during third term. That is why we have changed the calendar mostly for third term," said Matiangi.
