Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and CDI Director Ndegwa Muhoro launched the 5Y EDM helicopters at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on Tuesday.

Kenyans will in two weeks go to polls to elect president, governors, senators, MPs, woman representatives and MCAs on August 8 and Matiang’i has promised to quell any acts of violence that may crop up during the electioneering period.

“We now have a fleet of four helicopters to be used in enhancing the capacity of the police,” he said.

“We are committed to the goal of securing our country and ensure there is law and order. We are going to ensure lives and property of Kenyans are secured.”

Boinnet said the two helicopters’ launch “is part of the government’s plan to transport troops and senior government officials.”The launch brings to four the number of helicopters allocated to the police department.
