Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fed Matiang’i has denied links with outlawed Chinkororo sect, days after a clip where he openly admitted to be a member of the group went viral.

At a rally in South Mugirango last week, Matiang’i was captured on video threatening to unleash on opposition supporters using the outlawed sect.

“I am one of Chinkororo let them continue joking around. I will not spare them and this is a warning. He can’t continue intimidating us,” Matiang’i had said, using local dialect, Ekegusii.

But at Bosamaro on Sunday, Matiang’i accused politicians of quoting him out of context adding that he was keen to ensure peace prevails.

On Thursday’s elections, he said the police department has deployed enough security personnel in all parts of the country.

“I don’t remember advocating for Chinkororo. I only told people to maintain peace or we deal with them using the police. The country is ready for polls and we do not want skirmishes,” he said.

A decade ago, former interior minister John Michuki banned the group on grounds that it was causing unnecessary havoc to Kisii residents.

At a campaign rally in Nyamarambe ten years ago, DP William Ruto was a casualty of the outlawed sect after he was stabbed by an arrow.

Few kilometers from Matiang’i's Nyamira home, opposition leader Raila Odinga will tour on Monday where he is set to continue with his anti – IEBC rallies.
