Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i has soften his stand on teh citizenship of lawyer Miguna Miguna.
Speaking on Tuesday, Matinag'i said that Miguna is a Kenyan citizen by birth and he was ready to help facilitate his citizenship according to the law.
According to Mating'i, he is ready to help Miguna provided he cooperates with authorities.
Addressing Parliament's Security Committee on Tuesday, April 3, Matiang'i said that Miguna is a Kenyan citizen by birth and would only need to regularise his citizenship in accordance with the 2010 Constitution.
"There is no doubt Miguna was born in Kenya. But in line with the 2010 constitution, any one who took up citizenship of another country lost his or her Kenyan citizenship. Parliament enacted a law on how one regains that citizenship," he said.
On Monday last week, Miguna wanted to use Kenyan Identification card to gain entry into the country but was dissallowed.
The immigration department wanted his Canadian passport for stamping.
Matiang'i clarified the use of Kenyan ID as a travel document is only applicable to those traveling between and within the East Africa Northern Corridor nations, that is, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Southern Sudan.
Miguna returned in Canada on Monday after he was deported for failing to cooperate with local authorities.
