The Ministry of education is set to give students at all levels of education special identification number which will identify learners throughout their academic life.
This will be a deviation from the previous methodology of issuing students with Index number which would change whenever the student sat for national exams in more than one occasion.
Education CS Fred Matiang’i said the system will also curb incidents of students using illegitimate certificates to pursue their education.
“Monitoring the progress of a student is vital in the education system. We are coming up with a system that would see students given special identification numbers which they will use throughout their academic life,” he said.
“We want to see students using their legitimate certificates and not impersonating true owners. We will abolish the indexing which has played a major role in promoting fraud,” he added.
Matiang’i hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for political goodwill which has enhanced his radical surgery in the education sector.
