Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has criticised politicians for using school children for their own political mileage.
Matiang'i said that the government was not going to allow what he termed as "cheap and petty" misuse of school children in the pretense of offering them help.
He supported the recent action by Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa in banning politicians from offering food to the candidates.
"If all of us go to our schools for campaigns with printed T-shirts that bear our portraits, which type of society will we be living in?" Matiang'i asked. "Isn’t it common sense that we just cannot do that? The food programme from politicians has nothing to do with children... It is purely petty politics."
"You take a loaf of bread, print your portrait and bring it to children. Won't we be satisfied if your portrait is not there? No way; we will not allow it to happen now or in the future," he added.
