Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has ordered for fresh investigations into circumstances that led to the acquittal of controversial Neno Evangelism pastor James Ng’ang’a accident case.

In a letter to the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and copied to the Director for Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, Matiang’i asked the police and the DPP to appeal the pastor's acquittal.

The CS said that the government was surprised that the pastor was acquitted yet a crime was committed by the accused person.

Matiang’i also ordered for the case file and proceedings as the government makes an appeal.

He said that the fresh investigation report should provide directions to guide the Judicial Service Commission on what should be done on judicial officers involved in the case.

“The fresh probe should be on with the view of providing a corrective mechanism and action to take against persons who might have mishandled the case,” he said.

The Interior CS also said that investigation report should provide reasons that led to the acquittal of the pastor and two other accused persons.

He also asked the DCI to appeal the court ruling and ensure justice is done for the family.

On Friday last week, a Limuru Magistrate Godfrey Oduor acquitted Pastor Ng’ang’a and two other persons had been charged with reckless driving on August 26, 2015, causing the death of Njeri, at Manguo area in Limuru constituency.

The magistrate court ruled that the prosecution did not provide evidence to convict the three.

The acquittal of Ng’ang’a and two other persons has created a public uproar with Kenyan’s demanding justice for the family.
