Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has asked foreigners working in the country without legal working permits to process for the documents within the next 60 days failure to which the aliens will be arrested and be locked up.
According to the CS, some aliens have avoided to pay taxes since they don’t have the legal working permits.
“We will weed out aliens from this country who avoid paying taxes and pose as a security threat,” he said.
He said the government spends up to Sh360 million deporting aliens annually instead the money should be used to build the country.
“The millions of money the government is using each year deporting illegal immigrants should be put to other uses beneficial to building the nation.
"Any alien, who will not have the legal working permit within the 60 days, will be arrested and be locked up,” he noted.
He asked immigration department officials to move with speed to issue the documents without using the backdoor within the 60 days.
He was speaking at Nyayo house Nairobi on Monday when he launched a crackdown on foreigners.
