Internal Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has admitted that residential welfare of police officers is not good and therefore outlined the government agenda to improve the situation.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kigumo in the company of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett during the ground breaking of a police residential block at Githumu Police Station and an impromptu visit to various police camps to ascertain the magnitude of police welfare, Matiang’i said that the government has set aside funds to improve the living conditions of police officers.
“We really need to make some of these houses comfortable for our officers. I have made sure to get in to some of the houses, I want to be an honest public servant, I think we need to improve the condition of police officers,” Matiang’i said.
The Cabinet Secretary said that the government is committed to ensuring that the lives of police officers are improved and even said that it is among the president’s priorities.
“We have to stay committed to our line and work. There is nothing the President pays attention to these days than paying attention to the welfare of our police officers,” Matiang’i further said.
Speaking on the controversial salary cut in the police service, Matiang’i said that the issue will be investigated in order to come up with a conclusive report.
