Speaking during an interrogation by a parliamentary committee, the CS noted that he was not aware of the issue and as such could not effectively respond to it.

"I don't know whether Miguna was drugged. I am not aware. I can't respond to that question because I don't know. Lots of lies are being told about this Miguna issue," Matiang'i stated.

Immigration Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa on his part dismissed claims that Miguna was held in a toilet adding that the lawyer was given a nice room.

"It is not true that Miguna was detained in a toilet at JKIA. He was in a self-contained room with a mattress and a bed. He only showed the toilet, but in any case the toilet was clean," he said.

Regarding Miguna's deportation, Matiang'i explained that the self-proclaimed National Resistance (NRM) general had not been deported but returned to his last port of call.

"Miguna was not deported. We removed Miguna as an undocumented, unestablished passenger on transit to his last port of call.If Miguna was deported, I would have signed a deportation order. We could not deport him as he was not in our jurisdiction," Matiang'i explained.
