Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has revealed reports of investigations on the fire incident at Moi Girls School in Nairobi.

Addressing the press on Monday, the CS said that the Saturday incident was a case of arson.

Dr Matiang’i said police investigations showed that the fire incident, which left 9 students dead, was not an accident.

“It is very unfortunate what happened at Moi Girls in Nairobi. All investigations have ruled out that it was a case of accident. It was a case of arson,” he said.

The CS said the police have important leads on the incident and most of the investigatons are done.

DNA examinations will be conducted today on the eight students who perished during the fire to help in identifying them.

Their bodies are lying at the Chiromo Mortuary.

More than 50 students were injured, with two having over 50 per cent burns.
