Matiang’i said insecurity in his backyard is on the rise but he will not condone criminals to continue terrorizing residents.

“Some people are being terrorized by lazy youths who have joined criminal gangs. The Interior Ministry will deploy 'experienced' police officers to fight crime in the Gusii region,” he said.

He said junior police officers will not be sent to the region because they lack the experience to deal with criminals.

Matiang’i urged members of the public to work closely with police officers to arrest criminals who are hiding in deep villages.

“Criminals are hiding with us in deep villages. It is the duty of our people to report any suspected criminals to police so that they can be arrested. Crime will only end if residents and police will work as a team,” said Matiang’i.

He called on youths to shun joining gang groups to steal from people saying they are not above the law to be allowed to continue terrorizing residents.
