Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has revealed the suitable punishment for rogue police officers.
Matiang'i said security officers who don’t work around the clock to end crime in their areas will be sacked.
“We have several Kenyans who are ready to work as police officers but they have not gotten the chances to work.
"Lazy, drunk police officers will be sent home and new people to be recruited to help the government in protecting citizens,” he said.
Matiang’i warned police officers against asking for bribes from illegal traders to allow them continue with illicit trade saying the law will catch up with them.
“Police officers should not condone illicit trade such as those dealing in drugs and illicit brews. We must all put our efforts to ensure dubious dealings and businesses come to an end.
"Any officer found engaging in corruption will be sacked, arrested and prosecuted in a court of law,” he added.
Matiang’i said the Interior Ministry has embarked on a cleanup exercise at the border points in the country because cartels are using the border points to bring expired products from foreign countries to sell to Kenyans.
