Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i reportedly rushed to London last week on Wednesday to check on his ailing mentor and uncle Simon Nyachae.
For the last three weeks Nyachae has been admitted at a London hospital after suffering from chest pains.
And following his trip to UK, Matiang'i was missing in action on Sunday at Naivasha where top Gusii leadership was meeting for a unity meeting.
It is believed that the flamboyant CS is secretly working with elected leaders to have a single political party that would propel him to top leadership in the country.
While it is not clear which seat Matiang'i will be running for, sources intimate that he could run for Kisii County gubernatorial seat or even jostle to be William Ruto's running mate.
Before joining cabinet, Matiang'i briefly worked as private assistant to Mzee Nyachae, a one time political protagonist in Gusii region.
In fact, it is through Nyachae's influence that Matiang'i managed to secure an appointment in the government.
