Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has fronted Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to chair the IEBC albeit on an interim basis.
The governor suggested Matiang’i’s name on grounds that he successfully oversaw credible KCPE and KCSE examinations in the country.
Rutto said that unless Isaak’s team is immediately replaced by another team headed by Matiang’i, the 2017 general polls will not be free and fair.
Currently, the Select Panel mandated with choosing IEBC’s next chairperson has already shortlisted five people to replace Hassan.
"IEBC's reputation has been tainted over cases of corruption and rampant rigging of elections. Allowing the same team to remain in office over the lame excuse of lack of better candidates does not hold water," Rutto said.
He said that if Matiang’i could conduct the 2016 exams credibly, nothing would deter him from replicating the same performance at the electoral commission.
