The new school fees structure that was gazetted on February 20, 2015 requires boarding schools to charge Sh66,424 per year.
Out of this, parents are to pay Sh53,554 per year, thanks to government subsidy.
Special needs schools are required to pay Sh69,810 per year.
Out of this, the parents are to fork out Sh37,210 per year and day schools Sh22,244 per year where parents are required to pay Sh9,374.
There are reports that some schools are charging parents more money.
Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i should come to the rescue of parents and ensure that schools adhere to the new school fees structure.
The Kenya national association of parents, KNPA should also come out strongly and condemn these schools that are forcing parents to pay more than the law requires them to pay.
The government of Jubilee made a pledge to support the education sector and that is why the school fees structure was reviewed in 2015.
Stalkholders and relevant authorities should make sure schools adhere to it.
