Last week, Matiang'i was quoted calling for debate on robust judiciary adding that it was overrated.

"We are pretending that we have a credible judiciary but we don't have one. Time has come to have a robust debate on having a credible judiciary," he said.

His remarks elicited sharp criticism with a section of leaders accusing him of allegedly undermining Maraga, one of senior Gusii people in government.

But at Kebirichi on Friday, Matiang'i insisted that his calls to have a robust judiciary did not amount to calling for his ouster.

"I only raised a few issues and they have nothing to do with plot to oust him (Maraga). People should stop spreading rumours about the government," he said.

Following the abrupt resignation of Attorney General Githu, analysts have linked the move as a wider plot to have him replace Maraga.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has vowed to ensure Maraga is toppled, a move that has rattled a section of Nyamira leadership.
