Education CS Fred Matiang'i has told off critics opposed to his impromptu visits to schools saying that they have helped him know the state and environment in which teaching and learning take place.
Matiang'i has said that the visits had provided him with an opportunity to know the challenges of providing quality education in schools.
The CS, who was speaking on Wednesday at Ngara Girls High School where he had made a random visit, said that it was part of his mandate as Education CS to make such inspection tours.
"It is not possible for any Education CS to provide the leadership required in the Education sector without visiting schools where the Education policy, standards and curricula are managed and implemented," said Matiang'i.
He added that the visits had also revealed to him the need to expand infrastructures to cater for increased enrollment in secondary schools in the past few years.
"We have found that there is a need for many schools to expand their dining halls, dormitories and classrooms to meet demand for increased enrollment of students," he said.
The CS promised to continue 'visiting' schools saying it was part of the strategy to establish the challenges facing the provision of quality education in Kenyan schools.
