Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has ordered a fresh crackdown on all illegal betting in the country.
Matiang'i on Friday gave the order instructing all county and regional commissioners to raid premises and confiscate any unlicensed gambling machines.
Speaking at the Kenya School of Government in a meeting with Education directors, the Interior CS also cautioned that any foreign national involved in illegal betting would be and deported.
He defended the government's stance on gambling and said the government took the decision to protect children who sneak from schools to take part in the unregulated betting games.
“We have had instances where students drop out of school due to addictions. Some of these machines are operated by foreigners who are in the country illegally. We will not accept resurgence of illegal gambling machines and illicit brews anywhere in the country. Chiefs and assistant chiefs must take personal responsibility to eradicate these vices,” he said.
