Education CS Fred Matiang'i has vowed to continue his move of closing down universities that do not qualify to operate in the country.
He said that any institution that was established without following the laid-out procedure will be his first casualties.
Matiang'i added that the institutions will also be vetted to ascertain whether or not their courses are relevant to Kenya's development agenda and market demands.
These decisions were reached at during a recent two-day meeting that brought together members of university councils in Naivasha from April 10 to 11.
“The councils are committed to rationalise campuses, in line with available resources and international best practices,” said a communique from the meeting.
