Acting Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i maintains that the government will not increase the number of security details attached to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

A number of GSU officers guarding the opposition leader and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka were recalled to headquarters in what spokesperson George Kinoti termed as ‘routine administrative procedure’.

And in an interview with a local Radio station, Matiang’i defended the action adding that it targets a host of VIPs across the country.

“I don’t know what they are complaining about because if you go to their homes, you will find their gates guarded.

“This was just a normal procedure and we had to scale the number down due to other duties. The exercise will affect a number of VIPs. I think they have more than enough,” said Matiang’i, adding that the issue should not be politicized.

On Tuesday, Odinga had accused the state of allegedly ‘exposing’ him to danger by withdrawing the officers without his knowledge.

NASA parliamentary leadership under the stewardship of John Mbadi had issued the state with 24 – hrs ultimatum to have the affected security officers reinstated failure to which, the opposition will hold demonstrations.
