Speaking during a meeting with leaders and security officials in Wajir county Tuesday, Matiang'i said that the government is all out to ensure that the region, which has always had security issues, is finally secured.

Coming barely a week after a 15-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped in the county, the CS fired a warning to chiefs and their assistants, directing them to either perform in line with eradicating such situations or face the state.

''We cannot be having our children and women being harassed yet we have people on the ground who have been tasked with the responsibility of preventing that. From now henceforth, any Chief of Assistant Chief under whose administration such criminal activities will happen will be punished or even fired,'' warned Matiang'i.

He added that such cases must be dealt with in accordance with the law, discouraging any form of dialogue.

''There should not be any form of home conversation to solve such cases, they must be taken to the courts,'' added Matiang'i.

Concerning the recent exodus of non-local teachers from the region, following a recent Al-Shabaab attack aimed at the group, Matiang'i said that the government is addressing the issue, urging them to stay put.

''All government employees must work in any part of this nation without fearing for their lives,'' he said.
