Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has now turned his attention to international schools based in the country.
Speaking during this year's conference of private schools in the country on Friday,Matiang'i gave a directive that the schools, most of which offer foreign curriculum include Swahili and Kenyan history in their syllabus.
He said that offering their services in Kenya to Kenyans, the institutions have to follow in the footsteps of local counterparts and adopt what is good, appreciated and practiced by the locals.
Dr Matiang'i directed that their secondary wings provide among others Kenyan history lessons.
''International schools based in Kenya must from now henceforth include Swahili and Kenyan history studies in their syllabus,'' he said.
The CS further directed foreign teachers deployed in the institutions to get local certification or risk penalties.
''Their teachers too, even if they are foreigners must get certification from local unions and be registered by TSC and the others,'' said Matiang'i who also doubles up as the Cabinet Secretary for interior.
