As the government continues with the war on counterfeit goods in the country Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been tasked to disclose the names of those behind the sale of counterfeit sugar.
Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirichi said the CS must name those guilty to save innocent traders who are being viewed suspiciously by buyers and even harassed by law enforcers.
According to Wangui, one of the consignments impounded at Paleah Stores in Ruiru town is owned by her brother and speculations are rife that she could also be involved the business with her husband Andrew Ngirichi.
The politician said to avoid speculation, Dr. Matiang’i has to release the names urgently and ensure that those involved are dealt with according to the law.
Speaking during a free medical camp, Wangui said that no one should be spared in the fight against contraband goods which have a negative impact on the economy and the health of Kenyans. Wangui said the government knows who the traders are and should ensure that companies found guilty are deregistered.
She said that officers from KEBS, KRA, and police are all involved in the syndicate and they should be investigated.
