Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General Joseph Boinett have been warned against the growing post-election violence. Several organizations including Kenya Human Rights Commission, Women's Link Worldwide, Africa Centre Open of Governance and Federation of Women Lawyers have written to the government officials ordering them to put in place measures that would stop alleged police brutality on citizens.Matiang'i was also ordered to enlighten the police on circumstances under which they should employ use excessive power. On his part, Boinnett has been directed to ensure that commanders in specific regions are held responsible for any misuse of firearms and position in their areas of deployment. The government officials have also been urged to work towards enhancing security within the affected areas.The two have been directed to put in place mechanisms that will support survivors and encourage them to come forward and report the cases in a secure manner.
