Matiangi, who assumed the education docket later in December 2015 from Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has been making impromptu visits to a number of institutions, causing anxiety among school managements.

Speaking in Nyambaria High School on Sunday, the tough talking CS told off his critics insisting that the visits were necessary for ‘academic progresses'.

“I know my style of leadership may not be appealing to many of you teachers but just bear with me. I am determined to interact with education stakeholders so that we fix the mess we’ve seen in the past therefore, I will continue coming,” he said.

“We need academic progress hence that cannot be achieved if I sit pretty in Nairobi. I believe in transformative leadership and I know by visiting your schools, its advantageous because it will help us to come up with viable policies,” he said.

Matiang’i assured teachers of protection from political forces which is often witnessed in management of schools.

“I know many politicians have that naïve habit of intimidating school management and teachers whom they fall out of favour with. As your boss, that is a thing of the past because I will not allow external intrusion by the political elites. But remember that does not mean you neglect your duty and expect immunity,” he said.
