Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said his ministry is working with that of Lands to protect school land by ensuring that the issuance of title deeds is fast tracked.
According to the Standard, Matiang’i said schools that lack titles are most vulnerable.
The minister who made the remarks on Sunday at Kisii town parish said his ministry will extend such support to church-sponsored schools.
"We will protect such land from grabbers. Political leaders and all other stakeholders should protect schools. The government will deal with those who think they are untouchables," said Matiangi.
"It is unfortunate that some of our leaders have been grabbing school land and protecting land-grabbers. We need to be part of those offering solutions and not escalating the problem," he added.
Matiang'i said the ministry will continue with the sector reforms based on consultations to restore credibility.
"For a long time, the credibility of the education sector had been compromised. We will listen to all manner of criticism but not to those who want to take us back. Education matters should never be politicised," he added.
Matiang’i and Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi used the occasion to urge residents to register as voters.
"This region has over two million voters, enough to determine the country's political direction," he said.
