Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi who led a high profile government delegation to the area said that the number rose from 21 after more bodies were recovered in the morning.

 The CS said that 47 other people were rushed to Bahati and Nakuru level five hospitals with injuries out of which 41 were treated and discharged. 

“So far as this afternoon we had lost 32 lives. I would like to send my condolences to the governor of Nakuru and the families who have lost their loved ones. The national government and the county government of Nakuru is  in charge of the operation and will be distributing relief food and medical items to the affected families,” he said. 

It was estimated that 450 families had been affected by the tragedy.

Devolution cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa under whose the special programme docket falls said that his ministry will provide additional food supplies to the affected families.  

“On our part as the ministry in charge of special programs we would like to assure the families affected and the leadership here that we will give them all the support," he said.
